What we test for your home

If your home has an irrigation line, a residential fire service, a pool fill line, or a booster pump, you almost certainly have a backflow prevention assembly. California law requires every registered device to be tested each year by a certified tester.

We test every common residential assembly class: Double Check Valve Assemblies (DCVA), Pressure Vacuum Breakers (PVB), Spill-Resistant Vacuum Breakers (SVB), and Reduced Pressure Assemblies (RP). We bring calibrated gauges, run the certified test procedure, and record the readings your district requires on the official test form.

What’s included

How it works

  1. 1

    Schedule

Call, text, email us, or submit the scheduling form. We confirm your address, identify your water district, and book a same-week slot (typical in the Central Valley and Bay Area).

  2. 2

    On-site test (10–20 minutes)

Our AWWA-certified tester isolates the assembly, runs the field procedure, and records gauge readings on the official district form.

  3. 3

    If it fails, clear options

We explain the failure, quote the repair or replacement, and schedule the return visit.

  4. 4

    Report filed within 24 hours

We submit your certified test report form directly to your district (email, online portal, or paper per district) and email you a copy with the invoice.

  5. 5

    Annual reminder

We track your anniversary date and reach out ahead of next year's deadline so you avoid a shut-off notice.

California and federal compliance context

“The Cross-Connection Control Policy Handbook (CCCPH) took effect July 1, 2024.”

Residential testing rules flow from CA Health & Safety Code § 116800, implemented per the CCCPH, with industry best practice in AWWA M14, 5th ed. and the USC FCCCHR test procedures.

Frequently asked questions

How often do I need to test my residential backflow device?

California requires an annual test on every backflow prevention assembly connected to a public water system, aligned with the CA SWRCB Cross-Connection Control Policy Handbook (effective July 1, 2024). Testing is also required after installation, relocation, or repair.

What happens if I ignore the annual test notice?

Most California water districts escalate from warning letters to fines to water service shut-off for uncorrected non-compliance. We schedule testing ahead of your district's deadline so you never end up on a shut-off list.

Do you file the test report with my water district?

Yes. Filing is included. We submit the certified test report form directly to your water district (email, online portal, or direct utility channel) within 24 hours of the test and send you a copy with the invoice.

What if my device fails the test?

We walk you through the failure on site, quote the repair (commonly a rubber kit, check valve, or relief valve), and schedule the retest. We avoid starting work without your approval. Some older assemblies are more economical to replace outright.

Do I have to be home for the test?

Usually no. Most residential devices are on an exterior irrigation or meter service that we can access without entering the house. If water shut-off or interior access is needed we will coordinate with you in advance.

Which assembly types do you test for homes?

Double Check Valve Assembly (DCVA, ASSE 1015), Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB, ASSE 1020), Spill-Resistant Vacuum Breaker (SVB, ASSE 1056), and Reduced Pressure Assembly (RP/RPA, ASSE 1013). We can identify the assembly type with the notice from your water purveyor.
